2016

May 18th - Google announced daydream with a reference design for a phone based headset and a simple 3Dof motion controller.

October 4th - Daydream View, the first headset was finally shown to the public and released later on in november which kickstarted the platform. It was designed with premium fabric which also helped keep the headset light and comfortable. The headset worked by sliding in a compatible android phone and pairing the controller.

2017

May 17th - Google announced that they were working on standalone Daydream headsets with partnerships with HTC Vive and Lenovo. These headsets were to include tracking cameras for 6Dof "Worldsense technology"

Mid Year - Google announced Daydream 2.0 Euphrates, it was a major software update that added many more features such as the daydream dashboard which let you view notifications and adjust settings without closing the app you were in. It also included chromecast support so you could mirror the VR experience to your TV. More phones were certified for the Daydream-Ready spec and more apps were added to the play store.

October 4th - Google showed off a more refined 2nd gen Daydream View headset with more advanced hardware and software with features such as the built in heatsink, top headstrap and wider field of view. It was released later that same month alongside Euphrates.

End of year - HTC cancelled their plans for their Standalone Daydream headset in mid November.

2018

Start of year - Lenovo and Google show off the Mirage Solo and it was avaliable to purchase later in March-May, making it the first consumer 6Dof headset with inside-out tracking via the cameras.

October 18th - The Pixel 3 was released, which was the last Daydream ready phone by Google. In total, there was only 17 Daydream ready phones avaliable, Google intended for it to be a big VR platform for almost all flagship phones but the technology of the time meant that only a few cherry picked devices were ever supported.

End of year - Google revealed experimental dual 6Dof controllers for developers, however they were never officially released to the public due to Daydream being shut down in the next 2 years.
