May 17th - Google announced that they were working on standalone Daydream headsets with partnerships with HTC Vive and Lenovo. These headsets were to include tracking cameras for 6Dof "Worldsense technology"
Mid Year - Google announced Daydream 2.0 Euphrates, it was a major software update that added many more features such as the daydream dashboard which let you view notifications and adjust settings without closing the app you were in. It also included chromecast support so you could mirror the VR experience to your TV. More phones were certified for the Daydream-Ready spec and more apps were added to the play store.
October 4th - Google showed off a more refined 2nd gen Daydream View headset with more advanced hardware and software with features such as the built in heatsink, top headstrap and wider field of view. It was released later that same month alongside Euphrates.
End of year - HTC cancelled their plans for their Standalone Daydream headset in mid November.
